The primary responsibility of the Treasurer's Office is to serve as the custodian of all City monies, and keep an accurate record of all receipts and disbursements.  Short term funds are invested to maximize interest income for the city.

 

The voter's approved a City Charter change which expanded the city's choices to include those allowed by State Statue.

 

The Treasurer's Office is presently working with the Board of Finance on an investment policy that encompasses a more diversified approach to the investment of the city's short-term funds.

 

The Treasurer is a member of the Board of Trustees of each of the City's three pension funds.  Additionally, the Treasurer's Office is responsible for the biweekly and monthly distribution of pension benefits.  During FY 2010-2011 a total of 663 retirees were paid.  The breakdown by fund is as follows:  Firefighters Benefit Fund (93 retirees); Police Benefit Fund (101 retirees) and General Retirement System fund (469 retirees).
