Welcome to the Bristol Tax Office!  The City Tax Collector is appointed for a four year term by the Mayor with confirmation of the City Council. The office is staffed by six employees who are responsible for the billing, collection and accounting of all revenue so designated under State Statutes, the City Charter and various local ordinances.

In an attempt to collect outstanding motor vehicle taxes owed, the city has contracted with VioAlert Systems, LLC.  This vendor will provide an additional means for the city to enforce collections by performing daily sweeps of the city to find and boot tax scofflaws.  Anyone who thinks they owe delinquent motor vehicle taxes should contact the tax collector's office to pay the outstanding amount or risk having their vehicle immobilized.  If taxpayers who get a boot on their car do not pay the total outstanding tax amount, plus interest and boot release fee, the vehicle will be towed at the owners expense.  Any payment made to get the boot removed will have to be in the form of CASH, BANK CHECK or MONEY ORDER.  Credit card payments will be accepted but the 2.69% processing fee will also be charged.

If your vehicle was immobilized, taxes, interest and fees must be paid in full by the end of the business day or your vehicle WILL BE TOWED.

ALL vehicle taxes must be paid in order to register any vehicle in the State of Connecticut.

The 2010 Grand List Supplemental bills were mailed on December 28, 2011.  They all bear a due date of January 1, 2012 with a 30 day grace period so February 1, 2012 will be the last day to pay these taxes before interest starts to accrue.  These bills reflect anything that was registered after October 1, 2010 and before August 1, 2011.

The second installment of Real Estate taxes and Business Personal Property taxes also comes due January 1, 2012.  The City of Bristol DOES NOT mail bills for the second installment.  If you are a new owner of property since July 2011 and do not have a copy of your bill, please contact the Tax Office to find out how much is due for the January installment.  Although you may not have a bill, it is still the taxpayer's responsibility to see that taxes are paid on time.  Failure to receive a bill does not invalidate the tax or interest that accrues.  Interest will begin to accrue if payments are not received or US postal postmarked by February 1, 2012.

AVOID LONG LINES - PAY BY MAIL!!  SEND YOUR PAYMENT TO:  Bristol Tax Collector, PO Box 1040, Bristol CT  06011

Your cancelled check will be your receipt.  If an alternate receipt is desired, send the entire bill and a self addressed, stamped envelope with your payment.  We have a drop box located in the stairwell adjacent to the tax office.  Please take advantage of that option as the box is checked daily.
