Parks and Recreation Locations and Facilities


PAGE PARK .....given by DeWitt and May Rockwell Page in 1933. Entrances off King Street, Moody Street, Page Avenue and Woodland Street. Outdoor Pool, toddler playground, regular playground, boundless playground with splash pad, fishing lagoon for youngsters under 16 yrs. old, picnic areas, five lighted tennis courts, lighted softball field, hardball diamond, pavilion and lodge buildings.

ROCKWELL PARK .....given by Albert and Nettie Rockwell in 1911. Entrances off Jacob Street, Dutton Avenue and Terryville Road.  Toddler playground, regular playground, learn-to-swim pool, picnic areas, Skate Park, basketball court and hiking trails.  Skate Park use:  Bikes only on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from dawn to dusk on the skate plaza only.  Skateboarders only on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from dawn to dusk.  No bikes are allowed in the bowl portion of the park at any time.  The bowl is open 7 days a week from dawn to dusk for skateboarders only.  Bikes should not have steel pegs.  Alternatives allowed will be aluminum, plastic or pegless.  

BRACKETT PARK .....purchased from Carlyle F. Barnes in 1917 and later named for Dr. A. S. Brackett who was instrumental in securing purchase. Entrances on School and North Main Streets. Regular playground, toddler playground (Goodsell), basketball court.

PECK PARK .....land transfer from Board of Education in 1976. Developed and constructed through Community Development funding and completed in 1977. Trust Fund set up to maintain park under the will of Constant Y. Peck. Entrance from Daley Street, additional parking off Pine Street through Greene-Hills School. Four tennis courts, regular and toddler playground equipment, Little League field.

SEYMOUR PARK .....acquired through estate of George Dudley Seymour in 1971. Located on Shrub Road next to Barnes Nature Center. Hardball Diamond, basketball court, two tennis courts, toddler and regular playground equipment, picnic areas.

RILEY FIELD.....part of Seymour Park, dedicated in honor of former Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, Joseph J. (Sarge) Riley, Jr. in 1974. Located on Shrub Road next to Barnes Nature Center. Hardball Diamond.

WILSON PLAYGROUND....given by Bristol Brass Corporation in memory of Albert Wilson in 1950. Located on King Street. Regular playground equipment, softball field, basketball court.

CASEY FIELD.....transfer from Sewer Department in 1950 and later named for former Mayor James P. Casey.  Located on Lake Avenue. Softball field, Midget Football.

STOCKS PLAYGROUND.....transfer from Sewer Department in 1954 and later named for former Supt. of Parks, E. Gordon Stocks. Located on Middle Street. Regular playground with splash pad, volleyball courts, basketball court.

GOODSELL TODDLER PLAYGROUND...developed in 1974 in Brackett Park through funds given by Samuuel Goodsell. Located within the confines of Bracket Park on School St. Toddler playground equipment for pre-school children who must be accompanied by an adult.

FEDERAL HILL GREEN...park control designation when Park Board was formed in 1913. Located on Maple and Queen Sts. Community green area with lighted walkway, playfield, playground and park benches.

RIORDAN TODDLER PLAYGROUND...built in 1974 and named for former Park Commissioner James Riordan. Located in Federal Hill Green. Toddler playground equipment for pre-school children who must be accompanied by an adult.

INGRAHAM FIELD...given in 1936 by Edward Ingraham. Entrance is off Woodland Street. Softball field located within confines of Page Park.

MEMORIAL BOULEVARD...large portion given in 1921 by Albert Rockwell along with school property, remainder purchased. Located off Main Street. Passive recreation with park benches, fishing lagoon, four tennis courts, memorial monuments, and walking path with mile markers.

FRASER FIELD...given by Albert Rockwell in 1914 and later named for former Supt. of Parks, Willis P. Fraser. Located on Park Hill Rd, off Dutton Ave and Terryville Rd. Little League fields (3), McCabe Waters L.L.

MUZZY FIELD...Given in 1912 by Commissioner Adrian Muzzy in memory of his two sons. Located on Muzzy Street. Lighted baseball, football and soccer stadium complex - seating capacity: baseball/4,900; football and soccer/5,800.

BIRGE POND / HOPPERS...purchased from Bristol Savings Bank in 1973. Located on Beech St. Open space with Kettles. Hiking and walking trails. Fishing and canoeing allowed on the pond.

BRISTOL INDOOR POOL...built in 1995. Located at the corner of Mix and Maltby Sts. Memberships available for residents and non-residents. For further inf., call Park Dept. at (860) 584-3836.

PINE LAKE .... City purchased the area in the late 1960's and then it was given to the Park Commission in 1982 after the Conservation Commission lost Federal/CETA Support.  Area is approximately 54.6 acres and located off Pine Street/Birch Street/Emmett Street.

QUINLAN PARK .....A Veterans Memorial Park located on Broad Street, Forestville.  Acquired through the City Council on June 19, 1979.

KERN PARK ....returned to the Park Commission by City Council resolution on December 13, 2005.  Area is approximately 22 acres located off Ivy Drive/Primrose Lane.

PARK CURFEWS
Closed at dusk except for Park Department sponsored programs.
