YOUTH ACTIVITIES DROP OFF REGISTRATION

Registration for the activities below will be held on Monday, September 20, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation Department in City Hall, and at the Dennis Malone Aquatics Center on Mix Street. Drop off registration : Please complete the registration form located at the Parks and Recreation Department and drop off (forms mailed in will not be accepted) with check or money order only at the Bristol Parks & Rec., 111 North Main Street, Bristol, CT 06010, or the Dennis Malone Aquatics Center, 325 Mix Street, Bristol, CT. A mandatory $25.00 bank fee will be charged for checks that bounce. Additional registration forms may be obtained at the Bristol Parks & Rec. Dept. or the Aquatics Center. Registrations will be accepted on September 20th from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Park Office in City Hall, and from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Aquatics Center. All of these registrations will be processed at random on September 21st. Forms dropped off on the 21st will be processed on the 22nd. Starting September 23rd registration will continue daily at the Parks and Recreation Department ONLY in City Hall until the programs are filled. If a receipt is required please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Only one family may be submitted per envelope.

If your check is not returned, that means you got into the program you requested.

Checks will be returned only if a program is filled and your child does not get into the program.

YOU MUST SUBMIT A SEPARATE CHECK FOR EACH ACTIVITY

INSTRUCTIONAL BOWLINGFor boys and girls in 1st – 8th grade. The program will meet on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. for 8 weeks beginning October 2nd. Instructors will teach 1st – 4th, and 5th – 8th graders bowling skills, rules and techniques each week as they enjoy 1 hour of bowling. The program will meet at Spare Time Bristol. The fee is $40.00 for 8 weeks.

BUMPER BUDDIESBoys and girls aged 4 & 5 can have fun bowling on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. beginning October 2nd. Instructors will assist children as they learn the game in a fun atmosphere. The program will meet at Spare Time Bristol. The cost is $40.00 for 8 weeks.

LEARN TO ROLLER BLADEFor boys and girls aged 3 and up (must be correct age when class begins). Children are introduced to roller blading which is used in the sport of roller hockey. Skates are provided. Participants must provide and wear a bike helmet. The program will be offered on a monthly basis. Class will meet on Mondays from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. at the Plainville Indoor Sports Arena, 161 Woodford Avenue in Plainville. The cost is $20.00 per month which includes 4 classes. Session 1 begins October 4th. Session 2 begins November 1st.

PEE WEE TENNISUnder the instruction of Sheila Herens, boys and girls aged 4 to 7 (must be 4 when class begins) will be introduced to the basics of tennis in a fun atmosphere. All equipment will be provided. Class will meet once a week for 5 weeks on Thursdays at Mountain View School beginning October 28th. Classes will meet from 4:15 to 5:00 p.m. for 4 year olds, from 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. for 5 year olds, and from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. for 6 & 7 year olds. The fee is $20.00.

GYMNASTICS - Held at Page Park Pavilion and open to boys and girls aged 4 to 12. (must be correct age when class begins). Classes will meet once a week on either Thursday or Friday for 8 weeks beginning September 30th and October 1st. Participants will be instructed on the floor and the beam. Parents must drop off their child and pick them up when class is over. Parents and siblings are not allowed to stay in the building while class is being taught. CLASS PLACEMENT: Beginners – no previous gymnastics experience; Intermediate – must be able to do a forward roll, backward roll and a cartwheel without assistance. Advanced – must be able to do all intermediate requirements plus a backbend from the standing position or a back walkover. Please take the time to place your child in the appropriate class. We will make every effort to switch your child as needed provided there are openings in the appropriate class. The following classes will be offered on Thursday and begin September 30th: Advanced ages 6 - 12 – 4:30 to 5:15 p.m.; Beginner ages 5 to 7 – 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.; Beginners ages 8 to 12 – 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Friday classes will begin on October 1st and include: Beginner 4 & 5 yrs from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m., Beginner 4 & 5 yrs from 4:45 to 5:15 p.m., and Intermediate 6 to 12 yrs from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Instructors: Robyn Hicock and Mallory Anderson. The fee is $20.00. Please specify the class, time and day you are requesting on the registration form.

LIL’ BASKETBALL - For Bristol girls and boys aged 6 to 8.(Must be 6 when program begins) Boys and girls will play organized 3 on 3 games at low hoops to begin to learn the game of basketball. The program will meet once a week for 6 weeks on Saturdays at Chippens Hill Middle School beginning September 25th. Two class times will be offered: 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. or 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. Please indicate class time on the registration form. The fee is $20.00.

YOUTH BASKETBALL SKILLS - For girls and boys who are 5 to 8 years old. (must be 5 when class begins) Children will be taught the skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, and if time allows be introduced to game play in a fun atmosphere. Participants are asked to bring their own basketballs. However basketballs will be provided if necessary. Parent volunteers are welcome. Taught by Ryan Raponey, class will meet once a week for 6 weeks on Monday from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. at Chippens Hill Middle School beginning October 4th, 2010. The fee is $20.00.

3 on 3 BASKETBALL FOR 9 TO 12 YEAR OLDSBristol boys who are 9 to 12 years old may sign up for this program (must be 9 when program starts). Participants will work on skills and play organized 3 on 3 games each week. Taught by Ryan Raponey, class will meet once a week for 6 weeks on Mondays from 6:55 to 7:40 p.m. at Chippens Hill Middle School beginning October 4th, 2010. The fee is $20.00.

JUDO CLASSES For boys and girls aged 5 to 14 and taught by Willie Williams, Certified USJA Coach, Sandan 3rd degree black belt. The program will focus on the basics of Judo oriented toward fun games that lead to techniques appropriate for that age group. Rather than meeting force with force, students will learn to improve their awareness, balance, coordination, flexibility, physical fitness, as well as an effective self defense. Class will meet once a week for 6 weeks. 5 - 11 year olds will meet on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. 12 – 14 year olds will meet on Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Classes will meet at Page Park Pavilion and begin on October 6th. The program fee is $20.00.

DANCE- Held at the Rockwell Park Pavilion and open to boys and girls aged 5 to 14 (must be 5 when the class begins).The following classes will be offered on Saturday afternoons: 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Jazz/Tap Combo for 5 – 7 year olds (1st time dancers), 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Jazz/Tap Combo for 5 - 7 year olds(previous dance class experience), 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. Jazz/Hip Hop for 8 to 10 year olds and from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Jazz/Hip Hop for 11 to 14 year olds. Class will meet for 8 weeks on Saturdays beginning on October 2, 2010. Instructor – Kristin Gienty. The fee is $20.00.

SUPER SITTERS BABYSITTING CLASS - Girls and boys 11 years of age and older (must be 11 when class begins) are eligible to take this course. Super Sitters will teach the following skills: diapering, emergency action, basic first aid, activities to do with various ages, and ways to handle a variety of situations that might occur. Under the direction of Jodi Corbin, class will meet once a week on Mondays for 6 weeks beginning October 4th. Two classes will be offered: one from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m., and a second class from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Classes will take place at the Greene Hills School Library. The fee is $20.00.

SPORTS FUN!! For boys and girls aged 6 to 12. Each week participants will have fun playing some of their favorite games in an organized atmosphere to include: wiffleball, dodgeball, mat ball, soccer, basketball and other fun games. Class will meet once a week for 8 weeks on Thursdays beginning September 30th. 6 to 8 year olds will meet from 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. 9 to 12 year olds will meet from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Classes will meet at Stafford Elementary School gym. The fee is $20.00. Instructor: Shawn Mirmina.

FLAG FOOTBALL For boys and girls in 3rd to 8th grade. Participants will have fun as they learn to throw and catch a football, as well as learn to play the game of flag football. The program will meet once a week on Fridays for 8 weeks beginning October 1st. 3rd & 4th graders will play from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. 5th to 8th graders will play from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. The program will meet at Chippens Hill Middle School gym. The fee is $20.00. Instructor: Shawn Mirmina.

FUN WITH MARTIAL ARTSFor boys and girls aged 8 to 13. A fun filled exciting youth program designed to acquaint and promote leadership and life skills character building. Basics of Karate, Kenpo, Kung-fu, Ju-Jitsu, self defense, exercise and physical fitness training with focus and discipline. Class will meet on Tuesday & Thursday from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. for 4 weeks. Session 1 begins October 5th, Session 2 begins November 2nd , and Session 3 begins December 7th. Classes are held at Black Belt Schools of America, 1235 Farmington Avenue. The cost is $20.00 per session. Please specify session on registration form.

YOUTH BOXINGFor boys and girls aged 6 to 14. Participants will learn the fundamentals of boxing to include proper footwork, all the basic moves, focus target drills, skipping rope and all the conditioning you need to get started. Class will include sparring rounds with gloves and headgear. Class will meet for 4 weeks on Tuesdays from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Black Belt Schools of America, 1235 Farmington Avenue. Session 1 begins October 5th, Session 2 begins November 2nd, and Session 3 begins December 7th. The cost is $20.00 per session.

ICE SKATING LESSONSFor ages 5 - 17. 2006 U.S. Olympians Melissa Gregory and Dennis Petukhov are offering this learn to skate program. Skaters of all abilities are welcome to come have fun and learn fundamentals from how to tie skates to learning your first spin and jump. Classes are for ages 5 up and will be held on Saturdays from 12:50 to 1:35 p.m. Class meets for 5 weeks. Classes begin on November 13th. The fee is $75.00 for the 5 week session. You may bring your own skates or rent them for $3.00 per week. Classes will be held at the International Skating Center, 1375 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT.
