CITY OF BRISTOL PLANNING COMMISSION AND ZONING COMMISSION ESTABLISH
"PUBLIC NOTICE REGISTRY"
(EFFECTIVE 10/1/06)
In accordance with the provisions of Public Act No. 06-80, the City of Bristol’s Planning Commission and Zoning Commission have established a “public notice registry” which will be used to inform interested property owners, electors, and non-profit organizations of certain applications initiated by each of these two land use boards.
Individuals and organizations who ask to be placed on the registry will be notified by either regular mail or electronic mail of the commencement of public hearings on commission-initiated amendments to the city’s Zoning Regulations, changes to the city’s Zoning Map, amendments to the city’s Subdivision Regulations, and adoption of or amendments to the city’s Plan of Conservation and Development. Notices will be sent at least seven days prior to the beginning of the public hearing. These notices are in addition to the legal notices published in the local newspaper.
The notices cover only those applications initiated by the Planning Commission or Zoning Commission; notices will not be sent regarding applications submitted by applicants other than the commissions themselves (e.g., individuals or corporations). If, for example, a property owner submits an application to change the zoning of his parcel from residential to business, the Zoning Commission will not send notices of the public hearing to those on the public notice registry. On the other hand, if the Zoning Commission itself proposes to change the zoning of a parcel from residential to business, the Commission will send a notice to all those on the public notice registry.
Applications of the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals are not covered by these notice requirements.
