About the Route 72 Corridor Amendments

The Bristol Zoning Commission has adopted a series of amendments to the Zoning Regulations and

Zoning Map that resulted from the Commission's efforts to implement recommendations contained in the
city's "Route 72 Corridor Land Use and Transportation Master Plan" (known informally as the Route 72 Study). The
Study, adopted in 2005 by the Bristol Planning Commission, lays out a land use and traffic corridor management
plan for portions of the corridor that were expected to be the most impacted as a result of the Route 72 Highway
Relocation Project.

In preparing the amendments, the Zoning Commission considered the findings of the Roue 72 Study as well as its
own knowledge of the area. Among the amendments is a new “Route 72 Corridor Business Zone” (identified
as "BHC" on the Zoning Map), designed to accommodate an array of uses consistent with the corridor’s increased
importance as a gateway into Bristol and itsdowntown, and an “Access Management Overlay Zone”, intended to
help improve traffic flow and safety within the corridor by better managing the number, location, and design of

driveway openings along sections of Pine Street, Middle Street, and Riverside Avenue.
