Free Stuff
Public Works offers free wood chips, fire place logs, sand and leaf mulch to Bristol residents. When in stock, these items are available 24 hours a day at the Dog Pound (Vincent P. Kelly Road) for residents who load their own vehicles.
Wood chips, leaf compost and logs are typically available during the spring/summer season when we are collecting these materials.
Sand during the Winter season. Free supplies of a sand and salt mixture for snow and ice conditions are available to residents in small quantities in front of the City Dog Pound on Vincent P. Kelly Road off of Middle St.
Residents are encouraged to mulch grass clippings on their lawns and use backyard composting as a means of removing leaves and other yard wastes from the MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) refuse stream. The Solid Waste Operations Division provides a variety of printed information to the public detailing proper refuse disposal, permit requirements, and business and residential recycling information. This information is available at the front desk of the Public Works Department, Ground Level at the City Hall.
