Local Emergency Planning

As of January 1, 2010, the City of Bristol has transitioned oversight of its local emergency planning function to the Capitol Region Emergency Planning Committee (CREPC), a committee of the Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) Public Safety Council. Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC’s) began on June 6, 1994 as a result of the Emergency Planning & Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA) passed by Congress in 1986. Congress enacted this law to help local communities protect public health and safety, and the environment from chemical hazards. Twenty-eight municipalities use CREPC as their Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) for hazardous materials. The City’s Fire Chief, Jon Pose will handle any local level responsibilities.
