Bristol Police officers can be hired to work private duty for many types of situations. Some include traffic duty, construction, crowd control at special events, security and other appropriate assignments. There is a set rate and the work assignments are scheduled in 4 and 8 hour blocks.

Bristol Officers can only perform this type of duty within the city limits. Companies or persons hiring police officers cannot request certain officers or specific ranks.

The City of Bristol has a municipal ordinance concerning construction jobs that are located on or adjacent to roadways. The use of a uniformed police officers or flag persons is required for all excavations, road closures, and work performed adjacent to roadways that significantly restrict the roadway to traffic and create a hazard.

The Chief of Police has designated what roadways in the City will require a police officer to control traffic. This is based upon the nature of the roadway, traffic volume and any public safety concerns. For more information on the ordinance, go to Chapter 21, Section 21-10 of the Bristol Municipal City Code Click Here.
