Code Enforcement Unit |
The Bristol Police Department has two police officers assigned to code enforcement issues.
Officers Doug Nadeau and Tina Biello are assigned part time to the unit.
The police work side by side with the following city agencies and groups to resolve issues - Bristol Building Department, Health Department, Bristol Fire Department, Bristol Public Works, Community Services, Bristol Housing Authority, Bristol Corporation Counsel, the Mayor and City Council members.
Representatives from each of these agencies meet once a month at a public meeting to address and report on code violations. The Code Enforcement unit uses a "team" approach to resolve violations of city ordinances and regulations.
On April 8, 2008, the Mayor and City Council members adopted a new city ordinance for Property Maintenance and Code Enforcement. The purpose of this new ordinance is to protect the public, health, safety and welfare of its' citizens. Improving the quality of life in Bristol, while maintaining property values through voluntary compliance with city ordinances and regulations is a priority.
Enforcement action may be taken when voluntary compliance is not obtained. Public education and awareness are key components to code enforcement. Code Enforcement members may vote to abate and resolve city code violations and regulations when voluntary compliance is not obtained.
The cost for this abatement will be billed to the property owner or proper person.
Property mainatnce and the code enforcement city ordinances are found in the Bristol City Charter under sections 5-46 to 5-56. To view the ordinances, Click Here.
