Hours of Operation: Monday thru Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 4:20 p.m.
The Bristol Records Division is a civilian unit staffed by four knowledgeable administrative workers whose primary purpose is to compile, update and maintain all department reports. Supervised by Lt. Donn Watson, the division retains all parking tickets, alarm registrations and violations, motor vehicle and criminal statistics.
Due to the large number of calls received for information, report information is not released over the telephone.
The cost for police reports is $0.50 per side. For example, an accident report is generally a two-sided report. The cost for this would be $1.00 (full fee list below).
Copies of incident reports are available in person or by mail. We do not fax reports. If you will be picking a report up, they will not be prepared in advance. If you wish to receive a report by mail, you must send a request, including a self-addressed stamped envelope, the report number, and the correct amount due. If the report is not pre-paid, a report will not be mailed out.
Police reports, particularly motor vehicle incidents or accidents, are usually available within a few working days of the incident. Please call the Records Division prior to picking up a report to ensure that the report you are seeking is available.
Copies of reports that contain arrests are not available from the Police Department until all charges have been adjudicated in court. For those that need an arrest report prior to their court date, a lawyer may contact the court clerk to obtain a copy.
In addition to arrest reports, incidents pertaining to juveniles, medical reports, statements, sexual assaults, and uncorroborated allegations are not released by the department.
Local criminal record checks are available in person with a valid identification. Those with no local criminal history will be charged $5.00 for the background check. Those with a local criminal history will be charged $10.00.
All parking ticket inquiries can be made with the Records Division. If you wish to pay a parking ticket, you may either mail it to the department or pay in person. We accept cash, checks and money orders. Tickets double after seven (7) days and triple after fourteen (14). Please be aware of this when you make your payment. If you wish to appeal a parking ticket, you must come to the Police Department within five (5) days of receiving the ticket to fill out the appeal form. At that time you will be given a date to appeal the ticket with the Parking Authority. If you do not appeal a ticket within five (5) days, you will not be able to appeal it.
The City of Bristol currently has an ordinance (2.5-3) in effect that requires “any alarm that signals the presence of an emergency situation requiring urgent attention and to which the police department, the fire department and/or emergency personnel are expected to respond to” be registered with the police department. If you do not register your alarm, you will be subject to a $90.00 fine. All alarms that were registered prior to January 2008 must be re-registered. Registration forms can be picked up at the police department or printed off this website. In addition, three false alarms are granted each calendar year. After the third alarm, a $90.00 fine will be billed for each additional alarm. Should you receive a fine, you may pay in person at the Records Division or by mail. If fines are left unpaid, infractions will be issued for $136.00.
The Records Division is open from Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:20pm. Staff can be contacted at (860) 584-3061.
