During the past 3 years, the K9 team of Podlesney and Caesar has been involved in numerous incidents resulting in locating people, making arrests and recovering evidence or property.
Caesar graduated from K9 narcotic school in August of 2010. Three days after graduating, Caesar was requested to assist another BPD officer during a traffic stop. During the stop, the occupants of the vehicle were making furtive movements. The officers’ believed the occupants were trying to hide narcotics or weapons.
Officer Podlesney decided to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle with Caesar. As Caesar came to the driver side front door, he alerted that he detected the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. When the operator stepped out of the car, a black plastic film case fell onto the pavement. The operator admitted he had "crack" in the container. Shortly after, the operator admitted he also had "heroin" on him and 30 folds of heroin were recovered. The operator was arrested for narcotic charges.
This was Caesar’s first vehicle “exterior sniff” after graduating from narcotic school. Officer Podlesney and Caesar currently work patrol during a swing shift assignment.
