Police Officer of the Year

2009

"Police Officer of the Year"

Police Chief John DiVenere has announced that Officer Jeffrey Beauchamp has been named “Bristol Police Officer of the Year for 2009.”  On June 2, a local Bristol bank was robbed at gunpoint and the suspects fled in a vehicle. Shortly after, Beauchamp spotted the vehicle on Route 6 in Bristol heading into Farmington and he gave chase. During the pursuit, one of the suspects’ fired several gunshots at Beauchamp. Fortunately, he was not injured and he maintained his poise. The chase continued into Farmington where the suspects abandoned their vehicle in a wooded area. While police searched for the suspects, one entered a nearby home and held a woman hostage. She was rescued by officers and the suspect was taken into custody shortly after. The second suspect was captured later in the evening. Officer Beauchamp’s actions under fire, despite the grave and personal danger to himself, helped lead to the capture of the two violent felons. Officer Beauchamp will be honored for his valiant actions at the annual Bristol Exchange Club dinner.
