GRANTS
The grants function has brought in millions of dollars for Bristol projects, saving local tax dollars and providing important services to the citizens of Bristol.
The Grants Administrator and Grants Assistant for the City of Bristol research and identify new funding sources for City programs; assess funding needs and priorities; coordinate the grant process among City departments; develop complete grant application packages including narratives, budgets, graphs, and attachments; review and prepare grant documents and contracts; and monitor grant-funded programs, Additionally, the Grants staff monitor the funding/grant resource material library and produce interdepartmental grant announcements and updates.
Over the years the Grants staff have secured funding for a host of City departmments including the Parks and Recreation Department, the Public Works Department, the Bristol Fire and Police Departments, the Bristol Development Authority, and many others. Some notable projects which have been wholly or partially funded with grant money include road improvements and construction that enabled expansion of the ESPN campus, design and construction of the Southeast Bristol Business Park, aquisition of protected open space, environmental assessment of several brownfield properties, development of a tree inventory and maintenance program for City parks, replacement of memorial oak trees in Veterans' Memorial Boulevard and Park, implementation of a Pre-kindergarten School Readiness program, and development of a city-wide Discovery Initiative that addresses the educational, emotional, and physical needs of young children.
