Responsibilities & Services
The primary responsibility of the Treasurer's Office is to serve as the custodian of all city monies and keep an accurate record of all receipts and disbursements. Short-term funds are invested to maximize interest income for the city.
Pension Funds
The treasurer is a member of the Board of Trustees of each of the city's three pension funds. Additionally, the Treasurer's Office is responsible for the biweekly and monthly distribution of pension benefits. During the 2010 to 2011 financial year, a total of 663 retirees were paid. The breakdown by fund is as follows:
- Firefighters benefit fund (93 retirees)
- Police benefit fund (101 retirees)
- General retirement system fund (469 retirees)
